The LHBA food bank drive was a resounding success.  We would like to thank everyone involved for being so generous and giving.  The total amount of food collected has yet to be tabulated, but photographic evidence points to it being ‘quite a lot’.

LHBA Food Bank Drive Continues

Our suppliers and subtrades have been generous in their support of our food drive.  We need 10 times this amount to meet our goal of feeding hungry families through the London Foodbank.  Please call or email us with your support and we’ll come to pick up your donations!

Inspired by the Business Cares Food Drive  and overwhelming community need, the LHBA Renovators focus their competitive spirit each holiday season on collecting food for the London Food Bank.

So far in 2011 the London Food bank has helped an average 3200 families per month or 8500 individuals. Most people that use the food bank use it as a last resort.
The Food Bank also helps more than 25 social agencies with their food needs.  This includes programs like Daily Bread and Salvation Army; meal programs like school breakfasts and the Boys and Girls Supper Club; drop-in programs like Youth Action Centre and Glen Cairn Resource Centre; and residential programs like Mission Service, Unity Project and Women’s Community House.

Last year alone the participating Renovators raised $1650.00 and collected 10,000 pounds of food from their companies, suppliers, sub trades and friends – this means that the LHBA Reno Council alone helped 1330 people with their donation!

The Renovators put out a  Challenge to the Builders this year to see who can bring in the most food per participating Builder or Renovator. If we can double the amount of food just think of the difference the LHBA Renovators and Builders can make!!  Let’s give the Builders a run for their money and help a very worthy cause.

In fact, those who plunge into the reno pool have achieved such levels of incompetence that their disastrous forays into fixing things up have spawned TV series such as Holmes on Homes and Canada’s Worst Handyman.

The success of such shows, at the very least, reveals that the bumblers provide Canadian viewers with entertainment value, even if some of their misadventures induce cringes and/or a sense of awe at their boundless capacity for stupidity.”
